Our Little Boy

Well, after a long hiatus, the Douthits have returned to the blogging world! I suppose it just took having something worth blogging about, and out sweet little boy has given us that: ) He’s here!! We celebrated Judson’s birthday (and mine) on December 30, and it was the sweetest birthday I could have imagined. Our little boy started coming around 1 am and slowly worked his way into the world at 3pm on Monday afternoon, December 30th. We were very thankful for such a smooth and quicker than average (for a first birth, I am told) labor and delivery. He has been such a delight and we praise the Lord that he has given him to us to shepherd and raise (and snuggle and kiss) during his time on earth.

There’s a lot to be said about the last week, but I will attempt to keep it short and sweet! It started with a fourteen hour labor, and the Lord was so gracious to work out all the details along the way. All of our doctors and midwives spoke English; the process was smooth and I progressed well, and Nathan was able to stay both nights with us in the hospital (not really allowed, but we kept pretty quiet!) God was very gracious. As a side note, (future) Dr. Dad made an awesome labor coach, I couldn't have done it without him:)

Though our little boy came nine days late, he was well worth the wait! He came in weighing 6.8 lbs, and 20 inches long (an estimate, they didn’t measure length so we measured once we came home).  His head circumference was 34 cm (below the 50th percentile). We think he’s pretty awesome. Nate and I aren’t quite sure who he looks like, but he has features of both of us. He definitely has that Douthit smile (dimples included) and eyes like his momma! His long skinny legs he gets from dad and the chubby cheeks are all me. The first few nights we had a hard time with the whole night and day thing, but now he is sleeping at night like a champ! He loves having his hands up by his head when he sleeps, and he’s not a big fan of being swaddled. He likes to smack his lips when he wants to go to momma, most folks say that means he’s hungry, but I like to say he's just "rooting for kisses" :) We are so proud of our boy. We are thankful for the confidence the Lord has given us to care for him. The moment he entered the world we were confident in the fact that he was ours and we were his.

We are so thankful for all of our friends and family who have prayed faithfully for our Judson, he is the fruit of God’s grace and the prayers of faithful saints. We pray our boy will bring much honor and glory to our King.  Judson, we love you, buddy:)

  1. THANK YOU so much for sharing this sweet message. We have been thinking about you guys and wondering how you are doing. He is a beautiful boy, of course, and we are thankful he arrived as smoothly as he did. Just enjoy this precious time you all have together...it will be gone before you know it!
