Week in Review 6.8

I’d like to begin this “Week in Review” with an apology. We didn’t blog three times last week.

Whew, now that that is over, let’s move on
.
An interesting look at some of the academic merits of private schools.

Moose Hit by Fireworks Truck
Great story here (well, not so great for the moose) with some cool pictures.

This is Your Brain on Coffee
For those of you that know us well, you know we love coffee. Is it healthy? The jury’s still out. But the crack team of scientists at the NYT blog says yes.

Why is Coffee Called Joe?
Coffee drinkers will also enjoy this short article.

An interesting commentary on some recent comments made by Pope Francis.

Photo of the Week
As I mentioned last post, Kate is out of town right now, leaving me, very unfortunately, fending for myself. I had two old friends from Auburn in the country come down and stay with me on Thursday, and we had a great time catching up and fellowshipping. This is us cooking dinner, the only thing missing is an AU Football game on TV!

A Week in Review (5.19)

Here are a few of the blogs, sites and/or articles that we have been encouraged by or interested in this week, as well as our picture of the week!

The Real Life of the Pro-Life Home- We were encouraged by this reflection on the Gosnell trial and the real nature of the pro-life movement.

Abandoned Star Wars Sets in the Desert- This is a fun slide show of Star Wars sets that were left behind in North Africa after filming!

'Read' This Article-This is written by a law school classmate of Nathan's brother, Tim, and is a great explanation of why Christians should be readers.

W. W. Jay-Z?- Forewarning: This article is rather lengthy. It is, however, an interesting look at the idea of Christian hip-hop, the use of different genres in scripture, and how different musical styles lend themselves to different types of lyrics.

Why French Kids Don't Have ADHD-You may have seen this bouncing around Facebook, but if you haven't, it is worth the read. Whether or not you agree, it's interesting to see how society defines illness and how our surroundings affect our behavior.

Picture of the Week: We in Be'er Sheva have long been anticipating the opening of "The Beach." It has been in the works since before Kate and I arrived, so we strolled over tonight to take a look. It's no Gulf Shores, but it looks like a fun way to beat the heat this summer!

A Week in Review (Pilot)

Here are a few of the blogs, sites and/or articles that we have been encouraged by or interested in this week, as well as our picture of the week!

The Radical Nature of A Quiet Life -This article was a big encouragement to us, and we hope it will be to you as well.

MSIH First Year Blog-This is a blog done by first years in the Medical School for International Health. Many of Nathan's classmates are talented writers, so check this out and enjoy! It will continue to be updated through the end of June before the new class takes over in July. (P.S. We did some blogging in  February, in case you missed it)

When Doctors Grieve- The author of this piece taught part of the Oncology course Nathan was in this week. She has done a fascinating study on the stigma attached by Oncologists to expressing or feeling grief over the loss of one of their patients.

Picture of the Week
-We had a prospective student stay with us a little while back, and had a great time showing him around Be'er Sheva and explaining the program to him. He only stayed one night and the next day we took him to the bus station where he graciously bought our lunch. Our favorite part about this photo? Falafel crumbs in the beard.
